Q: Can you marry outside of your denomination? My boyfriend is a devout Catholic, but I am a Protestant Christian. We have talked about the major differences between the two extensively. He says it’s a misunderstanding that Catholics worship Mary. They simply hold her to a high regard because she is the top saint. He also says that they do not pray to saints, but that they ask a saint to pray for them because they are alive in spirit, even if their body has passed. He compares it to a person who is physically alive to pray for you. They also have some differences in how salvation occurs.  It sounds like Catholics think that the salvation is not sincere if it does not lead you to do good works. I believe that salvation is first and that God will sanctify you with time. I believe this occurs the deeper that we surrender to him. Q: I have recently been getting closer to God now as an adult woman 33 years old. I have always known about God I was raised catholic. However now as an adult, I am choosing to give my life to him, and eventually I would like to be baptized into the Christian faith.  My husband is Catholic as well, and when I talk to him about my future plans to be baptized he tells me that I can’t do that because we can’t be married as will be from "two different religions", saying thats a sin and he is not willing to change.  He is also upset me that I’m changing and "becoming a different person". I love my husband deeply. He is a great husband. I’m just not sure why he’s so offput by me being closer to God. Q: My husband and I recently are turning back to faith. After growing up without it since i was about 10 (so truly I remember nothing) and my husband ( who grew up catholic, went to a catholic high school and was basically over religion by the time he went to college), are looking to live in faith.   We have kids & found this amazing Christian classical school which we have our heart set on sending our children to. We went through the lengthy and highly involved application process, and they have a statement of faith, which included their thoughts on homosexuality among many other things the bible says. My husband‘s sister is gay, and we have friends who are also gay. We love them and respect them -the end. At the school, they want us to verbally agree that we believe that "the only way is for a man and woman to be in marriage". Now I believe for me and my husband this is true, but that is my truth. Q: I grew up hardly ever going to church, but my mom is Protestant Christian and I went there sometimes. My dad saw a Catholic woman [who I liked] & when I was 14 they married; in order to marry her as a Catholic he had to convert to Catholicism. When I was with them [between my mom's home and theirs] growing up, we went to mass on Sundays. I had my son at 25 and converted to Catholicism that year so he could be baptized in the Catholic church at their insistance [as the teaching goes- Heaven & Hell beliefs in RCC are tied to being in the Catholic church]. I am drawn to Catholic mass and knowing and admiring my stepmom, have been led to believe [based on her explaintions] it to be the right decision. I'm still very confused about some things though.
