Wife turning to Christianity and RC husband trying to prevent it

Q: I have recently been getting closer to God now as an adult woman 33 years old. I have always known about God I was raised catholic. However now as an adult, I am choosing to give my life to him, and eventually I would like to be baptized into the Christian faith.

My husband is Catholic as well, and when I talk to him about my future plans to be baptized he tells me that I can’t do that because we can’t be married as will be from "two different religions", saying thats a sin and he is not willing to change.

He is also upset me that I’m changing and "becoming a different person". I love my husband deeply. He is a great husband. I’m just not sure why he’s so offput by me being closer to God.

There are people who wear a form of religiousness but are not of God. So there will be a spiritual battle. It sounds like God is drawing you into truth, so you need to follow that path. 😊✝️

It's ironic how Catholics realize they're not Christian and that Christianity isn't the same as the Catholic religion. Well, in USA they've been decieved to think (and some uninformed will claim) they're both Christian. Likewise, not only do those you encounter in US when asked if they're Christian, will reply, "No, Catholic", but outside USA all Roman Catholics will vehemently reject being called Christian, and clearly state "Catholic". Further the Bible clearly shows Catholicism is a false and apostate religion. Intuitively Romsn Catholics know they're not Christian.

It's good he realized that and you realized that or there would be no note about him stating "different religion" and being upset that your changing (as a person & your faith). So with that as a starting point I will in truth share this as my response:

In Scripture (God's actual & unchanging Word to mankind), Jesus (while on earth teaching on salvation) said we "must be born again." Most Catholics will ask what that means, as they've never heard of it. And that's shocking, but not really; RCC has spent it's entire existence preventing people having access to the Bible, (it wasnt until about 2000 AD that they sorta said its ok to read the Bible), but they don't encourage it. If they occasionally do it's because 1. they are banking on their deception & fearnongering to keep you tied to RCC. And 2. RCC added non Scripture books [at the Reformation] to the Bible to push their false teachings; thus adding to God's Word - a serious crime. The RCC knows most all Catholics are lazy; they won't read it anyway as they just listen to the teaching or speeches given at mass and then they go about their lives. They're blind & dead men walking, having no desire for the truth nor God (as they're still in their sin nature and unsaved). Any religiosity they have is just standard basic idolatry (just as anywhere pagan in the world). Also, it's a sin in RCC to think you could be or say that you know you are saved, but God has said otherwise in Scripture. He wants us to know we are saved, and he clearly revealed to us "the Gospel" (which has the power of God to save). It is not the same gospel, god or jesus that RCC preaches. Roman Catholicism is of the satanic system, (as all false religions are). And by not knowing the Bible, hearing such a thing may be shocking at first. I hope it jolts you to wake up and examine what's actually in the 66 books of Scripture, so you will find the truth. The truth will set you free. [You can examine that more later below].

As I answer your question, I also need to address a couple of things, first God is clear in Scripture there are believers married to unbelievers; it happens for various reasons, and God calls us to remain married, [the below further explains]. But, secondly explain Scripture says we are to "obey God over man", that means even if your husband tries to stop you or forbid you to do what God has called us to [obey the Gospel & anything regarding living holy and rightly] we are to disobey him [the husband]... and follow God in loving obedience. (Even if your husband gets mad, throws tantrums, and acts out or whatever- he will have to "get over it"). The Kingdom of Darkness has no power over the Kingdom of Light, meaning God is more powerful than Satan, and God is in soverign control. We are to fear no man. But are to respond in love to their emnity towards us and God.

In areas of non faith related stuff we submit. This explains that further. Its not hard since we are eternally focused, not focused on self (pushing for our will or to get our way). We're  not focused on materialism or the temporary things of earth. It has no lasting value and is easy to give up or not fuss over. We dont grasp tightly to the earthly, but to Jesus & our eternal future.

So, for you, ignore your husband attempts to prevent you from getting saved, (Satan is simply puppetering him to keep you in darkness). On this eternally important matter do immediately "get right with God"; Obey the Gospel and become a new creation.

Once saved, find a Bible focused church to join, get baptized in obedience to God's command, and join that church (be active there). They will disciple you, shepherd you as you grow in the faith, and help you live holy. Then day by day live out that holiness in your life; your "radiating Christ" touches your husband and plants seeds to draw him to salvation. Read the Bible daily, grow in faith into maturity, and your transformation (by sanctification walk) will either draw your husband to Him or cause him to flee you. Whichever happens, God is in control, will give you peace and bless you in that outcome, but the spiritual battle will rage on until then. Wear the armor of God, pray, study Scripture and learn how to answer his objections to Christianity (just as you would in sharing Christ with other unsaved people). Hold to hope, and live in the peace of Christ.

These resources will bless and help you (with all those things) along the way.

God be with you ✝️✨️

PS. Many many many Catholics have got saved and left RCC (since the Reformation, and still are being saved even to today). I know several, and 1/3 of my very large church is full of former Catholics. God saves those who will be saved, so you can rest in that fact. Not one who Jesus died for will be left behind. Your husband is in God's hands, so hold out hope until he dies, but praying it is God's will to save him sooner than later. I know folk in 70s, 90s and even 102 & 107 who got saved. Salvation is on God's timetable and will work out all things for good until that day of rejoicing arrives. 🫂✨️.

If you get an opportunity after joining a Christian church and before your Baptism, to have the pastor and his wife over for dinner, try to in advance ask the pastor to talk with your husband in a way that may soothe his frustration over you becoming Christian. And invite them over for dinner occasionally so they can get to know you, and possibly have a goal of God softening his heart towards the truth. Perhaps he will be invited at Christmas and Easter to your church and eventually attend with you as God plants seeds and waters truth in him. Of course do invite him to your believers Baptism on a Sunday morning, so he sees you have surrendered your life to Christ; the true and historical, and ever living One revealed in Scripture. Take baby steps with him, and be full of patience, love and grace, regardless what he does says or how he behaves around you in daily life. You'll make mistakes, but all baby/toddlers do as they learn to walk. You keep growing and maturing in the Faith, and let God work on your husband (and family).

Don't go visit, attend or go back to the Catholic church, caving to your husband, family, or for any other reason. Go forward in faith, being steadfast in only going to your Bible focused Christian church.

The Believers Resource addresses false religions (like Catholicism), and you will reach that area of the site as you go through it naturally step by step. Once discipled well, you can then be equipped and prepared to engage him on Christianity, (like to his objections). And having been prepared (and able to answer these), it can help further be a light and guide to lead him to the Faith; to the Cross for his salvation. Believers faithful to God, and know He will always be with you.

God bless
