The Brain, consciousness, Soul FAQ (plus Earth age info). Q: How does the brain and soul work? It seems both are needed. At death, wutg the Spirit (headed to and in Heaven) how can we think feel and act, without the brain? A: The brain and soul are distinct but closely connected. The brain is the physical organ God designed to control our bodies and process information, but the soul (and spirit) is the immaterial part of us—our mind, will, emotions, and spiritual life. The Bible teaches that humans are made of both material (body/brain) and immaterial (soul/spirit) components (Genesis 2:7; 1 Thessalonians 5:23). While the brain enables us to think, feel, and act, it is not the source of our consciousness or identity.
