History of RCC ECC & Orthodox Religions True Christianity: The faith as taught by Jesus and the apostles (1st century AD), based solely on Scripture. Continued thru 300-400s, then was restored by the Reformation. Catholicism: Around 5th century AD (c. 476 AD –500 AD), after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, Catholicism was created. The Church in Rome had consolidated authority under the Pope at that time. Over time, heresies & false doctrines were added: like papal supremacy, indulgences, purgatory, veneration of saints, Marian doctrines etc. By doing this they rejected Biblical truth, what God said the Gospel is, and perverted who God and Jesus are...thus they went into apostasy (& likewise idolatry [meaning created a false god]).
