Being led towards God & reading the Bible

Q: I'm an young professing atheist. I didn't grow up in a religious family and didnt attend church regularly. Recently, a family member gave me some money, and I decided to buy a Bible. I thought it would be a good starting point. I got a small, cute Bible that fits in my pocket, making it easy to carry around. My sister, (who isn't very religious either), gave me her old Bible (having got a new one). Most of my family is also atheist. I’m not trying to push religion on anyone; I’ve had negative experiences with religious friends who judged me for my beliefs, which is part of why I identify as an atheist. My mom and I are currently staying with family having hit hard times, & she is struggling with depression over it. I try to encourage her, (who is also an atheist). I told her we would find a place again and that her cats are safe at the shelter. I even said, "God will help us," even though I don’t believe in God. It just came out naturally. While sitting out...

Can you see Love

"A lot of atheists say they believe in love, but their definition of love is different from ours. They think love is just about feelings and emotions. But the Christian definition of love is based on the love of God, which is sacrificial and unconditional. And that's a much deeper and more meaningful kind of love." "A lot of atheists also think that they can only know what they can see or experience. But that's not always the case. For example, we can't see or experience gravity, but we know that it exists because we can see its effects. In the same way, we can't see or experience God, but we can see his effects in the world around us. "So, I would encourage atheists to not be so quick to dismiss the Christian definition of love or the existence of God. If they are willing to open their minds and hearts, they may be surprised at what they find." Oscar Navarro, Living Waters podcast, ep  Former Atheist.  <<< return to prev page

Only believe what you can see?

That is actually a false dichotomy.   There are many things that we believe in that we cannot see, such as love, justice, and the past. Also our senses can be deceived, so we cannot rely on them exclusively either. Consider this: Do you believe in love? Can you see love ? Do you believe in justice? Can you see justice? Do you believe in the past? Can you see the past? Do you believe in the Wind? Can you see the wind?  If you believe in those things that you cannot see, why can you not also believe in God? We do not need to see something in order to believe in it, we just need to believe in the reasonableness of the evidence of it.  God has already provided that evidence .

I believe in me & what I see

Topic: Religious beliefs of Hollywood I read a pretty good book on the beliefs of various Hollywood celebs. Check it out.  Q: Are people stupid to believe in religion? Was it created to control people, and use fear to control people? We should think for ourself. I think we should believe what we see. And, what about other gods? I dont believe in any of them. - Atheist asks Christian reply:   As to thinking for ourselves and looking at reality, we Christians have done that... As far as Christian "faith", it is based on reasonableness and of evidence. Faith simply means trust. Trusting in what you have reasonableness to believe is true based on evidences you have.  It doesnt seem like you  investigated  this thouroughly enough to come to a conclusion on evidence of or truth on whether God exists.  As to Fear, you have a misconception of it.  The Word of God contains a lot, including:  *wisdom and history  *things o...

Bad Church Signs vs Truth

Image
Q: Why are Church signs like this?? A: Christian:  Pretty much shows theres many false churches and teaching in the world. The Bible holds the truth, not gimicky slogans, [though it makes folks "think about God" when they see it.😊] False teachings are just Satans deception. Whether a religion, a cult or atheist/ agnosticsm. The truth is only what God revealed in the Bible. Anything else is false. Scripture is clear that we gravitate away from truth because we are blinded by Satan and have the sin nature, and love our sins. So those enslaved to Satan love darkness & run from the light. It isnt until God comes to us, moves us and converts us, that we can love truth, righteousness and God.   Non Christian: The mere fact that a false church exists that is teaching a false message is enough. Whether the bible holds truth or not, [I've read every word, none of it appealed to me as truth], churches add to the chaos through their own decisions. Somewhere along, c...
