I read a pretty good book on the beliefs of various Hollywood celebs. Check it out.
Q: Are people stupid to believe in religion? Was it created to control people, and use fear to control people? We should think for ourself. I think we should believe what we see. And, what about other gods? I dont believe in any of them. - Atheist asks

As to thinking for ourselves and looking at reality, we Christians have done that...
As far as Christian "faith", it is based on reasonableness and of evidence. Faith simply means trust. Trusting in what you have reasonableness to believe is true based on evidences you have.
It doesnt seem like you investigated this thouroughly enough to come to a conclusion on evidence of or truth on whether God exists.
As to Fear, you have a misconception of it.
The Word of God contains a lot, including:
*wisdom and history
*things of science and medicine that people in modern times didnt even know about, see science faq answers, (scroll to bottom section to it)
And even...
*why we need salvation & how to recieve it.
Q: Religion still feels like a control mechanism.
Christian reply: False religions? Sure, (but that also includes atheism, agnostocism and all of satanism). Those false belief systems all part of the realm of darkness of Satan, used to decieve and give a false sense of security and false hope. Unlike the realm of truth and light which is biblical Christianity; the followers of YHWH.
There are only 2 belief systems those enslaved to Satan and those Freed in Jesus.
Scripture explains that people are blinded by Satan to keep them from seeing truth. Dont let him do that to you anymore. Examine the links here.
God's Word is a blessing to those who read it, so... examine it and embrace it.
You can examine it yourself. Those in darkness hid from the light. But God knows everything already, it's best to come to the light, because forgiveness & freedom are found there.

and God's Word says men will think & believe that. Because they dont understand their fallen nature. The are self deceived. Which is why God gave us the Bible so we can gain knowledge and understanding about this and our sins, so we can also understand our need for Jesus. God could've just left us in our ignorance and sins and damn us all to Hell when we die, or kill us as soon as we committed our 1st sin crime against Him
... but he choose instead to bring an offer of restoration; restoring what humans lost in Eden (Perfection, fellowship with God, spiritual and eternal life). He went to great lengths and cost to redeem us from death; and that came through Jesus (God in the flesh, as the perfect one and as the second Adam). He took the eternal wrath of God upon himself on the cross to buy back (redeem, paying the redemption cost) those who are enslaved to sin and pay the wages of their sin of those who would believe.
Scripture has much to say, but the Gospel of salvation is simple.
I pray you get right with God before it is too late. Please give serious thought to it, because once you die it is too late.
Investigate everything in the above provided links. You owe it to yourself to find out if you are self decieved by your fallen sinful nature, and decieved by Satan blinding you to the truth, to keep you from freedom.
