Tower of Babel, Space & Universe?
Tower of Babel, the Heavens, Space & Universe Q: Why do we see [for lack of a better word] a "piddly building" tower of Babel as a "to heaven" or towering to Heaven, in Genesis 9-11, a forbidden plot by man (to reach God, who is in Heaven(?), or whatever its purpose was...(?), when compared to man today going to Mars, the Moon in the outer heavens...? Knowing the universe is huge and man couldn't ever reach God's Heaven? A: The Tower of Babel was not about physically reaching God’s dwelling place in heaven, but about human pride and rebellion against God’s command. After the Flood, God told people to fill the earth (Genesis 9:1), but at Babel, they chose to stay together and “make a name for ourselves” (Genesis 11:4). The phrase “a tower whose top is in the heavens” simply means a very tall structure (it symbolized human ambition), not a literal attempt to reach God’s throne/ ascend to God's dwelling place.
