God killing

 Q: Does God tells Israel to kill people in nations that do not worship him? And, Does he also require people to be killed if they dont worship him (1st Commandment)? If so, doesn't this seem like God is bad and evil, or is He good, and can you explain why?


A: All good questions, glad you asked. 
Those who assume that would be speaking inaccurately and twisting Scripture.
It would show they have a fundamental lack of understanding about God, Sin, Justice, Righteousness, Truth, Facts, and lack of basic understanding of the Bible as a whole.

If someone makes a general statement and do not back it up with actual references, it shows they are voicing an opinion and not facts. When commenting they need to be specific about a Bible reference including the Book, with the chapter and verse. So it can be discussed. Just throwing out opinions as something they currently think is true, will easily result in revealing they are purposely misleading people, purposely deceiving people reading the comments, and/ or lack basic Bible knowledge. In those cases, it is best not to say anything, or is better to ask something in the form of a question. And of course they need to go and read the Bible as a whole (cover to cover). I do recommend that someone does that before they speak on things about Christianity. But there is nothing wrong with asking about things they are curious about or are having difficulty understanding. 
For this particular “Question” that is typically an objection....

Anywhere in OT where God is commanding Israel to destroy nations, it is from God bringing righteous judgment against other nations sins. God created everyone, God wrote His Law on our hearts, we know right and wrong. People are born sinners, pagan nations do unspeakably wicked things and only become more wicked and evil over time. Some nations he gave 400 years to repent, and they did not. Removing them is for the benefit of the nations around them, and the world as a whole. We cannot sit in judgment over God, and yet likely have yet to deal with our own sins as an individual, so in no way is it possible we have any right to try to act high and mighty as if we are higher than God, who is perfect and holy, and perfectly righteous and perfectly Just in his decisions.

God has been patient with sinful people and nations, and gives them time to repent, when they do not, He has every right to remove those wicked people from earth. I am grateful He doesnt kill us the 1st time we sin, THAT is a kindness and mercy and grace which we do NOT deserve. And we do not deserve what He did through Jesus either. But I am grateful He loved people He created enough to go to such tremendous lengths to bring salvation to mankind; save us, change us, and make us His own... instead of just destroying us all.

The 10 Commandments, as well as all the things God reveals in the OT being similar or related to morals, points directly to God being the only Perfect One, and reveals we are all sinners stained with the sin nature and incapable of being good, doing good, and shows we are not perfect. Typically this may be referred to as “falling short” of the Glory of God. We are no where near the kind of being God is. No where near, as in a infinitely far away from fathoming how OTHERLY and Perfect He is. The Commandments simply show God is perfect, and we are not.

The 1st Commandment is right, as are all the rest. It is right because our Creator deserves our worship, thanks, gratitude, etc, because He created us. Even if he never made a way for us to be redeemed and spend eternity in Heaven, He deserves our worship, and to be 1st in our lives.

Thank God he has made redemption possible for us. He did not do so for the fallen angels (Satan and the demons) and yet they knew the Triune God, were created by Him, Served Him, Worshiped Him, Believed in Him, and Scripture says even after they were thrown out of Heaven... they tremble before Him. How utterly absurd fallen mankind thinks, as if he is god over God or that he has any moral standing to act superior to God.
