Universe Questions

Q: When discussing or looking at diff galaxies. How do we Christians biblically realistically look at the light coming from distant galaxies, and explain or discuss it, in truth. 

A: The claim that light from distant galaxies proves the universe as millions or billions of years old is based on secular assumptions, not biblical truth. 

The Bible clearly teaches that God created the universe about 6,000 years ago (Genesis 1) [1]. The “distant starlight problem” is only a problem if we assume naturalistic processes have always operated the same way and that God could not act supernaturally.

God created the stars on Day 4 of Creation Week, and He made them to be seen for signs and seasons (Genesis 1:14–19). God is all-powerful and not limited by the natural laws He created. Several creationist models explain how we can see distant starlight in a young universe, such as God bringing the light to earth instantly, time dilation, or other mechanisms. The key is to trust God’s Word as the ultimate authority, not human reasoning.

God created the Universe & Earth to prepare it for His special creation, who would rule over & care for it; Humans. So, getting the light to earth in a very short time is a rather trivial problem. It really isnt hard to understand. 

The Bible teaches that God created the sun, moon, and stars to give light on the earth and to serve as signs for seasons, days, and years (Genesis 1:14–18). While the sun and moon provide the main sources of light for earth, the stars—including distant galaxies—also fulfill God’s purpose by declaring His glory and handiwork (Psalm 19:1).

The vastness and beauty of the universe point us to the greatness of our Creator. The stars are not just for physical light, but also for marking time, navigation, and as a testimony to God’s power and faithfulness. Their order and design remind us that the universe is not random, but purposefully created for God’s glory and for mankind’s benefit.
