Were Muslims decieved to think Catholicism is Christianity?

Early on muslims encountered a false form of Christianity. They had no knowledge of the Gospel cuz they lacked the recognition of who/what true Christianity was/are/is.

True Christianity:
True Christianity is centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ—faith in Him for salvation, grounded in Scripture. Any deviation from that gospel (including doctrinal errors or additions), that doesnt hold to the core Essential truths of Christianity [revealed by God in Scripture], is a corrupt false Christianity.

Islam’s Encounter:
Historically, early Muslims in the 7th century encountered "Christianity" largely in the form of Eastern Orthodoxy and some local variations of Western ones (like what later became Catholicism). Islam’s view of Christians is that they are “People of the Book” (Ahl al-Kitāb), but since they didn't encounter true Christianity, they had no idea what the truth was.

Catholicism mislead:
Because Catholicism is an apostate false religion masqurading as Christian, they proclaim a corrupt gospel & introduced many heresies (e.g., veneration of saints, sacramentalism as a means of salvation, the authority of the pope). So their false beliefs confused Muslims on what Christianity is. Muslims encountering Catholicism were thus misled into thinking that Catholicism represents the true Christian faith. It doesn't.

Historical Nuance:
Muslims, encountering the Church in its medieval form, mistakenly assumed it was the authentic Christian faith—because they could not discern the corruption of the gospel [false gospel's presented by RCC] without the light of Christ and the preaching of the true gospel. (Clarity: RCC didn't have that true light so they couldn't preach the true gospel. So Muslims never heard of the true Christ nor the true Gospel).

Heres a timeline showing when false forms of Christianity sprang up. There are many more false forms today, even among cults. The way to know "who" is a true Christian and if a "church" is of the true Church, is if they believe all these essential basic truths [and according to biblical definition]. These unite true Christians as One. (One body, one church, one truth).
