Mormon asks about baptism

Q: Mormon asks:

I have never been baptized before... but am getting baptized soon. My boyfriend and I have gone back and forth discussing this. He says if you get baptized in the "wrong" church/denomination, you can go to Hell for worshipping a false idol. Is there any scriptural evidence for this?  

A: He is right in a way. 

First I will note that all humans are already hellbound because we are sinners. The Law & Gospel further explain this as it points to God's perfection, and the just wages of man's sin is death and eternal wrath. 

So if you are an idolator [following a false god, false jesus, false gospel, false word of God, and in a false religiin masqurading as Christian] then it along with your other sins is why you would end up in Hell. Scripture explains by your sin your wages would be given to you. "The wages of sin is death" Rom 3:23, and Heb 9:27 further explains "After death isconly judgment". So your sins are the issue, and need to be dealt with by the way God has long declared it can be resolved; the OT since in Eden God declared it and it was accomplished by Jesus in the NT as promised. 

Mormonism is a cult and not Christian. It is also not a denomination of Christianity. Far from it. You can examine Mormonism further here. It is vital that you investigate it, because their way of salvation is a Satanic deception that will lead you to Hell if you follow them. 

So, before talking about baptism you have to answer the question of salvation. Have you got right with God by obeying the Gospel? If you have then according to Scripture [God's Word] baptism is simply your first act of obedience to God after getting saved; it simply publicly shows what happened to you when you got saved. It shows you align with Christ. 

There are false churches & cults that either act as if baptism is a work man does that contributes to your salvation, [flee those decievers], or just bad churches who just flippantly accept anyones "prayer" as if they magically now have salvation, and they wrongly fast tracks a baptism without ensuring someone's is actually saved. So there's wrongs happening in these instances.

But if you are in a bible focused church, [any long accepted protestant denomination], you can be sure the baptism done there is biblical, but just make sure your salvation is true, as far as you could know. This can further help you test your salvation.

So your boyfriend is right and he genuinely cares about you and your souls salvation. I would recommend meeting with his pastor to discuss it further, but the above on mormonism can help you get a good understanding and help unravel the lies LDS has told you, so you can flee it at all cost, to go the way of truth. 

If you do turn to the true and living God of Scripture, and forsake the religion of Mormonism, then these resources will help you as a new and growing believer.
