If money is the root of evil why do churches ask for money

Q:

A: There are many who actually are genuinely perplexed about this. For those I say, I am happy to explain it to you. For those who are not being genuine but their ulterior motive is to hate God, Jesus and Christians without any actual just cause... Satan and his children like to twist Scripture,... nothing new since Eden. 

The answer is: 

God has revealed in Scripture the verse says "AT the root." It's talking about sinful desires. Money can be used for righteous purposes. 

God has given all humans all that they have. We are to be good stewards of even the money he gives us, and it is best to use it for eternal purposes, bless others with what we have, and at times even give sacrificially where it may hurt us to do so. God will require us to give an account to him. 

2 Corinthians 9:7: Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Acts 2:42-47:

They [believers] devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.  All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold their possessions and goods, and shared with anyone who was in need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They gathered, broke bread and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
