Someone I know is dying
Just heard someone I know is dying
A Christian's first concern is going to be... Is that person saved?
If not I pray God opens his heart to salvation, that you can minister to him, share the gospel clearly and help him prepare to meet God.
You can play this short gospel presentation video too as it provides a clear gospel message.
Let him know the thief on the cross got saved just before he died and Jesus promised he would be with Him in paradise. God keeps his promises.
If you need helps with stubborn objections or has something holding them back look here to answer them.
Here are some ways to reach the lost who are dying or are hospitalized and dying
Also I hope this helps you as you navigate the loss and in ministering to those who he knows, knows him, and loved ones.
The above link has a few books to consider, that you can go through and see if they have any usage for him (the one dying), to help him and to try to reach him for Christ whike there's still time.
After the funeral
You can also hand out gospel tracts or a God focused booklet at the exit door to the funeral while thanking them for coming.
Find out the home food-situation of the berieved. You can send grief groceries to the closest family such as spouse and kids or his parents to help them for the week, or have the church ladies provide meals (considering dietary issues) for a few weeks to the berieved, or gift them a 3 month subscription to a pre made meal delivery service.
Check in on the berieved at an appropriate time and see what you might be able to do to help them, (of course pray with and talk to them too).
*See if they are still too grieved to move on and assess if they need pastoral intervention to help move them towards living again.
*Take them somewhere simple like a light bite to eat somewhere and go walk around a park a little bit. To ease them into things if they have been holed up at home.
*They might need help packing the things of the departed to sell or donate, and deciding what if anything they want to keep or pass some things on to family. Contact immediate family children to see if among the things the berieved wants to let go, if there is anything in particular they want from the items as mementos or that hold special memories. Perhaps the older children want to handle the clean up of the deceased's personal property.
> If the loving kids or loving family want to remove the deceaseds stuff and want you to take the berieved out for a short bit while they do so... make sure in advance you have the berieved show you the most important things of the deceaseds that they care the most about. Then you can pass on to the family some things the berieved noted they cherished and that can help the family keep aside some things in storage of the deceased they can bring back later or leave there after the clean up. -Of course photos and photo albums should be kept as it has family histiry there that will always be a part of their lives, but if the berieved is obsessed with and wont let go of the person then the photos should be kept by the most responsible family member next of kin for a while temporarily.
*They might need the pastor to come over and minister to them or counsel, or to point them to biblical counseling to help them through the grieving process, to help move on in life.
*Ask the pastor, based on his assessment, when it would be good to come back and speak to the children or adult children about their parent being free from the covenant marriage after death and that God wants us to move on and live here on earth and that includes looking for another spouse to be comfirted by and loved and live life together. [So to be the one to help break any tensions in that area so the berieved can move on and live life].
*If the berieved are believers who go to Church then make sure they have transport and get them to church every Sunday. And possibly someone to go to grab a simple meal with them afterwards (transitioning from a lot of church folk around them to a empty home can be a hard thing to do).
*When the holidays come around use some helps and ideas here along with anything you can think of for the first couple years.
*And anything else you can think of.
Be a blessing to these people and a light of Christ in their lives during this season.
Things to keep in mind if you are dealing with someone you know who is dying
Try to reach them once more for Christ even if hospitalized and dismissive of Christianity.
Help avoiding bitterness, discontentment and wrong feelings towards God, by remaining right minded if someone you know dies.
