Is dancing at weddings okay?

Q:  Can we as Christians dance at weddings? What can wedding receptions look like? 

A: Israel danced in many celebrations but not sure if they did in the Tabernacle/Temple. We do not know if there was dancing at weddings, perhaps there was. Weddings legally lasted 7 days in Bible times.

David danced before the Lord, though his wife thought it un-Kingly? Every ethnicity/race, tribe, nation, dances or has a dance. Ps 150 encourages us to praise the Lord with dancing. Question is, how? It is not the dancing but the heart or motivation of it. Sensual, provocative, tempting? If we are having fun with friends, celebrating a marriage, a promotion, our hearts are joyous, or you want to create a special evening with spousie by poping a bottle of sparkling juice or something, put on you alls’ favorite song, lights down low, dancing like you used to, why not? If done in faith that there is therefore now no condemnation in the called, that there is no sinful motivation, why not. If we were raised in strict teachings against dancing, it can be hard to overcome that bondage to enjoy the freedom that comes in Christ. Your flesh convicts you whenever you attempt to change. Pray for deliverance from all that is not of Him. Then go to Ps 150 and praise Him with a dance. By the way, the so-called spirit- filled dancing done in churches, ain’t.

You could have a 11am wedding. A soup and salad lunch reception afterwards, cake/ donuts, talk with people and then leave. Super simple and not a long reception.

We didnt have money for a wedding, were not going in debt over it [being young mil folk we were poor enough], didnt have good relationship w my parents at the time [it is a bit better now], and his family were on East coast where I was outprocessing, and mine were on West coast; no one could afford to fly out and spend $ on that trip "on either side", [and I wouldnt dream of asking folk to do that], so it would not work out anyway to try to have one. We went to jotp in a back yard w a gazebo with a quick officiant and that was that. 25 yrs later.... still married. 

If we did a wedding we would likely have a little bit of dancing at the reception to celebrate more like conservative ball room style, [not clubbing style!]. I think some things can be appropriate and acceptable. But any acceptable forms of dancing would def be conservative. Conscience matters and we can remember there seem to be celebrations where dancing is fine, just as David danced.

Just talk to your pastor & prayerfully consider what you will choose to do.
