Counseling: Honoring & Obeying your parents

Here are resources to help you through your teen, young adult and adult years regarding your parents.

Scripture says "Obey your parents." As they are the ones put in governance over you who are responsible for you and God has given responsibility to, to raise you up in the Lord, in truth
The home is a place of government, of leadership by your parents and a chuch where you learn truth, learn Scriptures, and worship and thank and praise God. The home is a mini world and to be a mini Heaven on earth.

Timothy's mother and grandmother raised him up in the Lord faithfully to know the Scriptures, and for it to be a light and guide on his path in life, and to seek counsel from it, seek God's directives, guidance, commands, comfort and peace in Christ by it, to know truth, and salvation, through it.

If you are not raised in a Christian home, you can follow the principles and lead your future family in them. You can reason with your parents, explain why you disagree on something, seek to allow them to let you start taking responsibility for your choices and the consequences. And do so by living out what you learn in the Word. Unless they are in violation against God's commands (trying to play God and trying to have authority above Him and the word) you can pbey them, which pleases God. They have final authority till you are 18, but should be sought out for biblical godly advice all your life, regardless of your decisions as an adult.

Resources & helps:
Whether they are good parents, or not, whether one is abscent or not, whether one is a step parent or not, and whether your parent is in a false relationship with someone else in opposition to Scripture, you still need to be a godly witness, live out your Christian life, continue to grow in the faith (by your sanctification walk) through reading, studying and applying obediently what you read from God's Word. Being in the Bible daily is important for many reasons.

Perhaps now is a good time to deep dive into a study (from all of Scripture) on that particular focus (on living rightly among the unsaved and those who mistreat you).

With that said, if you are in a situation that is unsafe such as sexual abuse or safety concern, you certianly can distance yourself in many situations and never go to see them alone. This can help you still do well as best you can towards obedience to God even in broken situations. Always be gracious, kind, forgiving, patient, controling your thoughts, speech and even when not there don't speak badly of them but let the focus be on prayerfulness for their salvation and radical transformation that comes from God.
