Women pastor clarity3
Timothy was considered a pastor of a church and his mother and grandmother held positions of service, like all servants of God. We are all to serve in the church. Scripture reveals that women can do anything in the church except that of an pastor(1).
Just because our secular cultural has a focus on "women" these days, it doesn’t mean the Bible has changed; it never does. Jesus revealed himself to the women because in Jewish tradition, they were believed to be the closest to God, and since they were who they were, they were more likely to be believed.
Mary was of the tribe of Judah just like Joseph, but it is his line that we follow, not hers. Men are to be the heads and women are to be their helpmate. I have heard many call themselves a woman pastor and my discernment Bells start ringing. Not because of my denomination, but because I know Scripture and it teaches that isn’t a role God has given to women.
Now this doesn’t mean that women are inferior anymore than Christ is inferior to the Father. The Trinity is our model for ALL relationships. God and the Father and Jesus are equally God. They are equally divine BUT they have different roles and different functions.
The same thing is true when it comes to male pastors, and women in the church. The same is true in a marriage. Men and women are essentially the same but they have different roles in a relationship.
And so if Jesus can submit his will to the Father, then we can submit our will to people we deal with as well. [Women submitting to men leaders].
The church means the body of believers. It doesn’t mean just a building. We just say church building in referencing the actual building.
The belief that women are to not be in leadership in church is not that exactly. Because if that’s the case then there are very few churches that actually do that.
Because if women can’t teach, why are these the same people who have women teaching kids in elementary school age? Because if they are going to say women can’t teach at all, then that’s not the proper reading of that passage. Timothy's mom and grandma taught him in the home as a child, (under adult age).
The proper reading if we are interpreting that section right, and admittedly it’s a difficult section, the proper reading of it does apply to the church, that the men ought to be the pastor.
So from Scripture we learn women had every role imaginable except as pastor over the congregation.
Footnotes:
(1) A Elder is a pastor. Scripture doesnt indicate senior pastor roles, but that all pastors are pastors. Also an Evangelist falls in that category too, because as it is a role where a man starts a church plant, brings in new believers and leads as pastor until they have discipled for 2 or 3 years to have mature believers where a man of integrity can take the pastor role or they hire one from outside the church.
An evangelist is not a basic believer who shares the gospel. That is the Commission given to all believers, which we are to be doing in our daily lives, seeking opportunities wherever possible.
