Binding and Loosing?
This is a misunderstood and often issue that needs correcting due to by false teachers in modern churches.
The topic of "binding and loosing" is in relation to sin and forgiveness & is found in the New Testament, both of which refer to the authority given to the apostles by Jesus:
1. Matthew 16:18-19 - "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
Vs 20: For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.
>>The Father & Son are participating with the congregation
2. Matthew 18:18 - "Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
In these passages, Jesus is speaking specifically to Peter and the other apostles, granting them authority to make decisions about matters of sin and forgiveness within the Church.

And Matthew 18:18 & here:
When looking at a verse, we need to understand the purpose of the book, esp if it is a letter in NT, but def need to look at the sections before and after a verse so we take it in context as well as look at what Scripture teaches as a whole on a topic.
