Jesus Resurrection timeline

What does God tell us in Scripture:

“And when evening had come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath,”

‭‭Mark‬ ‭15‬:‭42‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The day of Preparation was Friday according to Marks gospel. 

Died the day before the Sabbath, rises the day after... it is the most plain and faithful interpretation of the Scriptures. 

Jesus and Matthew also tells us he rose on Sunday:

"And while they were gathering together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men; and they will kill Him, and He will be raised on the third day." And they were deeply grieved". (Matthew 17:22-23)

Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to the grave... (Matt 28:1)

The govt even noted they would guard it till third day.

"Therefore, order for the grave to be made secure until the third day" (Matt. 27:64)

Paul even tells us: "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." 1 Corinthians15:3-4

Three Days. Jewish days. 

Explaining Jewish days

The Jews counted a part of a day as a whole. Jewish time is sunset to sunset, Jesus died on Friday (1st day) at the 9th hour (3PM) before Shabbat* which started at sundown on Friday. He was dead on Saturday (the 2nd day), and arose before dawn on the third day, Sunday. That's 3 Jewish days, and 2 nights.

This explains why He could die on a Friday and rise on Sunday morning, and it be considered the third day.

(*) About Shabbat:

Jews go home, and arrive to stay inside on Fridays before the sun sets, they stay home Saturday, and go out again on Sunday. 

Even today they do this. In 2010, I worked at a company run by and staffed mostly by Jewish people. They all left work early in order to be home before sunset.
