Widows last penny

The Widows Last Penny

Verse 4:
Jesus said the widow "put in all that she had for living.”
She put in all she had.

Quote:

Comments:
*The widow gave what she could out of her heart in love, and in faith, right...?

*She was an example of someone who should have received aid from her son, the Temple & nation of Israel. Instead, Judaism bled her dry.

My comment: He was speaking to all false works righteous religions. "Somethings wrong with that religious system" (see link on Luke 21)

Reply: Thank you for posting this sermon link!
The image quote upon reading, felt like he was preaching a works based entry to heaven which he most certainly, is not. It could be misleading for those 1) who just read it quickly, 2) who may not be familiar with Judaism, 3) not familiar with solid sermons of Jmac altogether, and so the ones reading it lack the full context.

My reply:
You are welcome. I hope it helps others seeing the link posted here too. [I pray more people will include related links when presenting info online, tbh. It only takes a min to find it online& share].

Upon my reading it he was showing what works based religions require. But i also had gone thru another sermon of his yrs ago where this topic was explained(*) and i was shocked. I thot it was a old lady who loved God so much she gave her last penny cuz she was going to die anyway. I understand how others understand it that way too, cuz Christianized countries & esp people in church, 1). are taught some baloney view, 2). dont understand judaisms legalism cuz we didnt live in that culture to know this. We live in freedom and liberty in Christ, so we see it from a loving worldview, but it wasnt that 😬😔.

And i understand others points that her son(1), the temple and nation should help her financially, but works based religions (even globally) are only after power and money, they dont care about the people, unlike the [biblical true] Church which exists because of Jesus and thru the power of YHWH, and by that is powered by love and care of the believers to others. Christians can see that easily, bcuz the lense of Christianity, and Christian worldview in society in the West.

He was pointing out the jewish religious system had become an apostate works based religion, requiring things, even unmercilously as requiring an older womans last penny. And one reason Jesus said "come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and i will give you rest". Yes he was talking about sin primarily, but also freeing from the repressive works run systems. Jesus tore that system down thru the Cross and restored true faith to what it was before and ever will be.

Before looking into the widows story, we need to remember the context of a verse requires looking at the verses before and after if its on topic, here for sure the context connects to the previous verses. So here, cuz of JMac quote. we should look at the previous sermon on that, first. Now, JMac does usually give a intro with a recap of prev verses & where we are in the section of Scripture, but... it only benefits you to hear that prev sermon as well.

I thank God that multi millions have access to such a well studied Christian preachers sermons online as JMac.

(1) Sons, as you will see in Deut 5 & Matt 15 & Mark 7 the adult children stopped caring financially and looking after their elderly parents instead misused their $ on other things, and to give to the Temple (claiming that was more important) claiming they vowed their $ to it as id it was being given to God, and wrongly tried to justify that wrong behavior as to why he neglected their parents. False religous system of Judaism gave people excuses as to not obey God.

(*)real reasons we need to be sitting under a solid Scripture studied preacher who preaches the word faithfully and in truth. Those pastors usually have a degree in Theology from a college or university known for it being conservative and biblical worldview focused (not woke, not progressive & is protestant, and either reformed or leaning reformed, and i would add... are ones who like John MacArthur), because the ones who stand on the Word and dont water it down (nor get sermons downloaded 😬) will know the ancient Hebrew and Greek language, and will explain the cultural context, the apostasy of judaism (not anti semitic but just exposing the errors of the legalistic works based system as thep preach thru the Scriptures), the things we wouldnt have understanding of, since we werent in that country or culture under its (eventually) repressive legalism. A solid preacher will also preach verse by verse thru each book, and do so reverently and faithfully.

Caution about modern church errors from pulpits

Church search & recommendations :
My suggestion would be: Now, if one seeks such a church, theyll find there are few if any in their area, they have to settle for the best they can (esp w the world gone mad w wokism and progressivism) theyll always have GTY.org to go listen to on Sunday after church, on the verses or topic your preacher preached on to get the most out of your day of worship, and glean from JMac what else you can.

If possible, find a solid church with a solid faith & belief statement, even if you have to drive 30 min to an hour 15 to get there. or prayerfully, thru online John MacArthur groups, find someone there in your area who holds to his doctrine/beliefs, and see if they can either guide you to a church to checkout, or if they also drive a ways to a solid church, and see if you all could go together, or carpool in a rental vehicle on Sundays, or ask the church to find you someone nearby willing (to serve the Lord) in bringing you/yall to church on Sundays. Then you can simply supplement your knowledge by JMac sermons on same topic on way home. Dont bash the pastor at your church, but grow and faithfully attend a physical church to serve & worship at. And bless the lives of those there and the ones you travel with.

Perhaps that relationship will grow, be good, and you could go Evangelize your local area together (both the adults and later the saved teens joining yall). You could also visit each others homes and help have gospel convos w the unsaved invited over of their circles and vise versa. A home church plant might come out of it if God wills, and if not at least youre faithfully sharing the gospel. Those from your church evangelism group or one formed could also go on a once a month to your area to join you all to reach the lost, (and eat a byo brown bag lunch to eat at church b4 departing there) to witness after church.
