Charismatic and non believers nonsense
Had convo w a relative after a church split, and the leader and my brother went fully deep into charismaticism. My best friend spent years getting into new age practices and finally admitted he’s not Christian. Goes to the charismatic church and prefers the "feelings" there.
Him: i wish you would come to this church and hear X speak again, when I go his message feels pure and "real".
Me: i appreciate you reaching out but i do nit feel led by God to visit there
Him: not sure what you have against it
Me: i can explain a bit...
We have doctrinal differences on important matters, plus the pastor trashed me online.
Him: i will have time later to reply, i do believe in God, but i dont consider myself a Christian at this point in life, but enjoy hearing messages & on spiritual talks
Me: i understand you have some view of a god, and listen to Christian messages, but it might seem like a info dump if i try to explain some of my views on the matter, to a non Christ follower. And while i disagree w your views, i care about you, but also want you to know I am always open to talk.
Christianity, my walk in Christ, is my life;who I am, and I hold to the authority of God's Word as truth.
In previous convos and interactions at that church and with that preacher he has taught false things about tongues and claiming to have went to Heaven & was told there was more information, another book. Thats nonsense on par with false revelations of mormonism and islam. He speaks from an altered Bible version and adds to Scripture (claiming new revelations), and when I spoke to him he basically said his revelation cant be disputed. I havent talked with him since then.
Him: when i talked with him he had spoke of you and asked about you. I view him as a friend, and one who seems would do anything fir me, us, the group we were all part of, then. He seems to want to grow spiritually and for those around him.
As for the Bible, I have been told, and believe
*it has been rewritten
*dont think we can read the original nor know the language
*bible had things removed and things added
* translations take things out or add things in
* it feels hard to understand whenever i try to read kjv
I think the preacher says the Bible seems to say we should speak in tongues to help bring us closer to God & seems like another way to praise and worship. I feel like the people at that church care about me. I am a fan of "realness" though.
Me: that is why I read the Bible, because the realness is in the Word. The Scriptures are reliable and have been researched well and proven reliable.
Some guy claiming "experiences" like joseph smith or mohammed have to be compared to Scripture, and have, and have been proven unreliable.
O find assurance in God's Word and confidently trust it because it has been very well examined.
End of convo.

* see above link notes on why we absolutely can trust the manuscripts & translations, spoiler:
1. Number of manuscripts from ancient times, even early manuscripts. See links for good 411 on that.
2. Jews and Greeks are still alive today and they would call out fraud translations of the Bible both those distributed in their countries and in English western countries where millions of them live 🙃.
3. we can read the Bible reliably because there are deep Greek and Hebrew language courses, required for theology, seminary and pastors degrees, and they learn it properly. Christians also have access to many resources incl this

to look into, besides what reputable biblical pastors explain from the pulpit, rightly providing truthful information when giving sermons from the Word, history, archeology, culture & language. If they dont, then leave that church.
*claiming new or addl revelation is flat out lie, deception. OT pointed to Jesus, NT revealed Him. He told the disciples for 3 yrs plus 40 days after resurrection all things to reveal and complete Scripture, plus Revelation. It spoke of present, near future, distant future, end times, Heaven, Judgment Day, end of the world, heaven and eternity. Theres 0 else to say. God said it all. Start to finish, it is full revelation, closed by God. Full canon. Fully given in the 66 books. The end.
* Joseph Smith and Mohammed were liars, decievers, frauds. A simple look into and even comparison w Scripture tells us that. On why islam book/revelations is false <&>
