Q:
This seems textbook Ad Hoc reasoning. Is explanation given by B only to block the conclusion? Is there independent evidence for any of this? Wasn't Mark the first Gopel and the least full of divinity? Some scholars say Mark's Jesus is not himself divine, but is adopted by God as an authorized user of God's name and powers.
Did B make mistakes?
- ad hoc explanation that makes claims there is no evidence by which to ground it
- assumes without justification that the Gospels were written as a single, coherent, and completely compatible narrative that's speaks with one voice

Your use of “ad hoc” as a pejorative serves only to distract form your own ignorance. Your own bad reasoning places the negative connotation on his explanation. Just because you don’t like it shouldn’t denigrate it.
Other scripture exists & is quoted which explains the concept being used, so this isn't ad hoc.
And you have to take all of Scripture together overall, not pick and choose to create some view... the Gospels are together telling the same account from different perspectives. Every eyewitness says things a bit differently, but here there is a divine purpose.
Mark spoke less of the Divinity of Christ, but John clearly highlights Jesus Divinity. Matthew & Luke speak of his divinity, as well as does Paul. Mark didn't deny his deity, just highlighted less, bcuz he wrote for a diff purpose*.
Also, you cannot pull one book out and say, "this one didn't highlight it as much, therefore it isn't true." That is a complete miss handling of Scripture and ignores the evidence found across the rest of the 65 books. The Bible was written by God over a long period of time and completed with John (Revelation).
The purpose of the Bible was to point out God's holiness, mans sinfulness; show us we need a Savior. The OT promises the Messiah and the NT reveals Him. The OT promises to destroy death (the wages of sin is death) and the NT tells how he did it [Jesus].

Jesus is of the eternal triune God, and Mark's gospel was written for "Revealing Jesus as King; the anointed one of God." He is the King if all kings, and Lord over all.
Yes Jesus is God (100% fully) and man (100% fully) having put on human flesh to walk among us visibly in order to accomplish what the OT promised.
The Gospels always point to Jesus, and Jesus himself declared: Repent and Believe the gospel.

Which scholars? The ones that fit a more liberal modern view, or the ones from 1st/2nd century that aligned with Scripture? Who cares what scholars think, most miss truth because theyre too focused on proving their own selfish theories right, than submitting to truth already revealed. That's even clear looking thru many Sunday School lesson materials available and reading the words "some scholars..." it's bunk to appear legitimate. Also note the Apostles didn't have college degrees. They were learned in the Scriptures (as most people today are not), they also learned directly from Jesus (God) and each other (by what the Holy Spirit revealed to them, at the right times, in NT as irl was unfolding).
The problem here comes in with the later Latin texts. Early aramaic and greek do not have these "not even the Son" words. In fact, most witnesses don't.
Muslims tend to use the King James, which interestingly enough omits those words. So theyre purposely picking versions that push the islamic narrative.
But let's be honest, Muslims wouldnt put up videos that debunk their teachings, views and attacks on Jesus and the Bible. They lie because their religion allows for it, in order to dupe people into Islam; a basic satanic tactic.
On topic, if you look, the Gospel of Matthew says the same thing. Luke also records the Olivet discourse but does not include this statement of Jesus. So we have three documents by three different authors consistently recounting the Olivet discourse.
The slight variations actually lend credibility to the authenticity, since each author had a different audience and purpose in writing their accounts.
The primary interpretation of this passage is not a proof text for the deity (or not) of Jesus- it was a warning to the Disciples of the judgement of Israel for their rejection of Him (his authority and His deity), that they would be persecuted for following Him, and that believers should be ready and on watch for these events.
Note. Jewish culture is important part of understanding what you read in the Bible. Jesus on earth is a Jewish man. "Not knowing the day or the hour" is ancient Jewish "wedding" language. He’s playing the role of the Bridegroom. The Jewish groom would not know when to get his bride until the Father sent him. Also, not knowing the day or hour is a Jewish idiom for "the feast of trumpets" [which points to Christ]. We don’t know the day or hour but we know the season. But Jesus knew. It's just that he obediently to the Father (during this earthly mission) chose to only say what the Father said to, at the times set to, & did what the Father recealed and told him to, at the times set to. So he was submitting to the Father to carry out everything that was planned beforehand, ("before the foundation of the world") by the Trinity.
Regardless, after the resurrection he was asked about "when", and Jesus said "It is not for you to know." This is God's business, plan and timing; it is things of the Trinity, the Godhead... not humans.
The Jewish custom was... that when two people decide to get married they will live in their own fathers home until the marriage. The bridegroom goes off preparing a house and she preparing herself for the bridegroom, then he will receive the bride and they will become one.
During this time it is up to the father to decide when the wedding will happen it could happen at any moment in any hour even in the middle of the night he may tell his son get up and go to your bride's house and take her for it is time for the wedding ceremony.
It takes time to prepare a Jewish wedding, and it lasted 7 days. 👉Much to prepare. Many variables in that era as to food purchased, transportation, cooking, clothes, and all the other preparations. And that couldnt take place until the groom prepared a dwelling place for the couple.
The people had to wear their wedding clothes and be ready at all times, even in bed, to be ready to be "called out" at any minute. This was also illustrated in the parable of the virgins and the oil lamps.
So in this case it is an example that only those from that under those traditions would have understood, which is why we need to connect the culture & history as well as the orig language meanings when studying Scripture. It requires more than a brief skimming because it was not our culture. If it was, we would easily understand. This topic/illustration is about the time before and of Jesus return to earth to take his bride [the church] to Heaven; this is the Rapture event.
Side note: The 7 days was pointing to the 7 years of tribulation period, where the Bride is in Heaven, safe from those troubles happening on earth. Having escaped judgment and been adopted into the Fathers family. Protected & beloved.
The passage that Mr. B cited in Philippians directly addresses the false point that the Muslim was attempting to make. Jesus always is and always will be fully God, with all the attributes of God.
Jesus took on human form through Mary's conception by the Holy Spirit becoming the unique God-Man. By doing so, He temporarily veiled some of those attributes- most notably omnipresence- in order to live a life of complete fulfillment of the Law. He also veiled His omnipitence and died a physical death (in His humanity) in order to defeath sin and death. His resurrection is the ultimate proof of His deity, attested by Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, Peter, and the writer of Hebrews.
