God doesnt hear prayers unsaved

Q: a Christian commented on an atheist agnostic seekers post to help bring clarity about prayer. The  seeker thought God hears everyones prayers, and thought God wouldnt be incapable of hearing the prayers. What clarity can you bring to this? 

A: I read the comment and the atheist seekers reply. While the unsaved do understand some Christian/biblical things, they not have a full grasp of Scriptural truths. Here, the Orig commenter on her post is right. 

God hears the prayers of the repentant, not the ones who dont belong to Him. Scripture is clear.

its not about God's "ability", it is about "choosing" to not hear them. 👉The unsaved do not belong to Him. "They belong to their father the devil" Jesus even noted that in NT. 

Commenter was truthful and spoke kindly with addl explanation. Truth will offend no matter how gentle one gives it. If they are open to truth theyll embrace it. If they want clarity the convo will continue. It certainly encourages them to get right with God, but if it takes time to sink in while they cry "God I believe but help my unbelief"... eventually God will make sure they understand and recieve it as truth. If they reject it they embrace a lie. Note: God is not a liar; when he is clear about prayer, we must believe him. 

He even cuts off prayer and fellowship with a sinning believer until they repent. How much more will God not hear the prayers of those not even His.

“But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2).

God is aware of every prayer (He is), but whether God is tuning in to our prayers, and has an intent to answer them, depends on if we are saved and if so are we are in any sin blocking those prayers and that fellowship.

However, when considering prayer, it is important to remember that most promises of God in Scripture were written to 👉His people. In the Old Testament, those promises were for Israel and all who united with them. In the New Testament, those promises were written to the followers of Jesus. It is a misuse of Scripture to pull out isolated verses and try to apply them to any situation we want, including prayer esp if it is from someone who is unsaved. A Christian can pray for them on their behalf (as God hears our prayers and we are in fact priests, ambassadors, messengers, and children of God).

God will not hear unbelievers prayers. In Isaiah 1:15, the Lord says, “When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening." 

Proverbs 28:9 says, “If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction [not saved &not obedient], even their prayers are detestable.”

“For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil” (1 Peter 3:12).

“Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer...For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof” (Proverbs 1:28-30).

“The LORD is far from the wicked: but he hears the prayer of the righteous.” Proverbs 15:29

He will hear if someone comes to Him for salvation, they recieve forgiveness, and fellowship with God through Jesus. 👇👇

Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved” (Romans 10:13; cf. Joel 2:32).

Everyone who invokes the name of God for mercy and salvation, by or in the name of Jesus, shall be saved (Acts 2:21). 

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Revelation 3:20

Do I have to have all my answers answered before becoming a Christian? No. All you need is to find basic reasonable evidence. You can get the rest of your questions answered as you live the Christian life. Tomorrow might not come. Get eternal things settled asap, preferably today. Repent & believe in Jesus as God, Savior & Lord.
