Why does God allow Anxiety and depression
Why would God allow the existence of anxiety and depression? It causes so much suffering and it seems so unnecessary and pointless.
I would answer like this....
1. God created everything good and perfect, and rested on day 7.
2. Suffering, corruption, pain and problems in life are a Result of the Fall (Adam sinning in Eden). The world is now corrupted.
So that both Sin entered the world but also Adam's spiritual life "died" at that time. So we are spiritually "dead" until God gives us Spiritual Life (at conversion/salvation). We die physically because it is the "Wages of Sin", but in Christ we " will never die" tho we die physically, He will give us an eternal body
That part was a tad off topic, but hopefully helpfully related.
So... people have struggles, trials, temptations, medical and mental related issues because of sin. Both sin as in "it entered the world by Adam" but also because of sin of humans; either our sin or those around us.
For example, when a parent (or classmate or coworker or significant other) mistreats (you) their child, that person (you) suffers mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally etc. Even if it is an issue that is not a big deal to others it is to the child or teen (or adult). Harm has come, separation, loss of fellowship, loss of trust, etc. But there is hope for healing, forgiveness, restoration and a brighter future but that is only posdible in the power of Christ (in/as a Christian).
Example, if a person is sexually immoral and living in sin, there are a myriad of things in the fallout and aftermath of that. 1st it is against God, your body, etc and other ramifications. But also if a believer it is violating your own body, and the temple of God. It brings separation from you and God and Scripture says it aligns Jesus with a prostitute since He is in us. The Spirit is in us and the Father as well.
Many times the anxiety and depression overcome a person because they are 1. Not saved or 2. Not trusting in God in various situations, not reading the Bible daily and submitting to God, and not in prayer. When hard times come we should seek refuge in God and not in other things or thoughts. Satan wants us to be defeated and stunt us from growth, & delay us, and keep us in the dumps for years so God doesnt use us..... but God wants to strengthen our faith and trust in Him through struggles, trials and tribulations. In fact, he even disciplines us when we do wrong so that we can repent, be restored, gain joy and trust, and come out of the situation stronger in the faith.
I can recommend a couple of helpful sermons and resources that helped me when I was diagnosed with a out of the blue rare cancer, and i can reference also good resources on anxiety and depression.
Also, when we have trials or testings it is not to cause our faith to crumble, it is to show us Jesus is walking through them with us, and we need to "hold his hand" as he leads us through it. He promised to never leave or forsake us. He will always be with us, even in hard or very difficult times. We can trust in and rest in Him, as we walk rightly day by day until we get through it. And later it can be a source of help and encouragement to others too. Just as the (history) Bible stories do for us as we seek strength, reminders and keep moving forward. He gave us this Source for multiple reasons and it is a blessing to have [a complete Bible] in our modern era to utilize, and as part of our relationship with God.
The Bible is God speaking to us, and prayer is us speaking to God. In a relationship, it is never one sided. And just as we would seek comfort and help and advice from a godly reliable person, God left the Bible to us to do that since he is not physically here with us.
I dont know your daily Bible reading plan, but you could pick one of these fun ones, and pick different ones everytime you are done reading through.... start over with a diff one 😊
Hope this helps and blesses you
